Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least 2026. This agreement extends his remarkable journey at City, which began in 2016.
Guardiola expressed his deep connection to the club, saying, “Manchester City means so much to me. This is my ninth season here, and we’ve shared many amazing moments together. I feel a special bond with this football club.”
The extension brings relief to City fans, especially after speculations surrounding his potential departure. Rumors had suggested Guardiola might leave alongside director of football Txiki Begiristain, whose decision to leave was announced in October. Begiristain played a pivotal role in Guardiola’s appointment in 2016, having worked with him at Barcelona .
City addressed these rumors through a social media post, featuring a video in which Guardiola humorously reassured fans, saying, “I’m not moving. I can assure you.”
Since joining City, Guardiola has led the team to an impressive 18 trophies, including a historic treble in 2023 with the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup victories. His leadership has helped transform City into a global powerhouse.
Before his time at City, Guardiola achieved great success at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, winning numerous trophies with both clubs.
Despite a tough start to the 2024-25 season, including a string of four consecutive losses and the injury of key player Rodri, Guardiola remains optimistic. City is currently second in the Premier League, just five points behind leaders Liverpool, with a crucial match against them scheduled for December 1.
Guardiola emphasized his passion for the job, stating, “I have everything a manager could ever wish for, and I appreciate that. My focus now is on adding more trophies to the ones we’ve already won.”
Manchester City’s next match will be against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
