Pep Guardiola Declares Manchester City Will Be His Final Club Job, But National Team Role Possible

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Manchester City will be his last club as a manager, though he has left the door open for a national team coaching role after his tenure at City, which runs until 2027.

Pep Guardiola Announces Manchester City Will Be His Final Club Role

nexnews – Pep Guardiola, one of the most successful football managers of his generation, has confirmed that his tenure at Manchester City will be his last club job. The Spanish coach, who has been in charge of the Premier League giants since 2016, recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2027, marking 11 years in charge.

Guardiola, who has won 15 major trophies with Manchester City, including the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League, revealed in an interview with Spanish chef Dani García on the Desmontadito YouTube show that he does not plan to manage any other club after leaving City. He stated, “There will be a time when I feel like it’s enough and there I’m going to stop, for sure. I’m not going to join another team. I’m not saying in the long-term future, but I’m not going to leave to go to another country (to join a club). I wouldn’t have the energy.”

Guardiola emphasized that he would not embark on another club journey, citing the exhaustive nature of club management. He explained, “Now, I’m still here, but to think about starting again, the whole process of training; no, no, no.”

National Team Role Could Be the Next Step

While Guardiola is adamant that he will not take on another club role, he did leave open the possibility of coaching a national team in the future. He stated, “Yes, that could be (an option), but that’s different. It’s not (training) every day, (playing) every three days.”

He acknowledged the toll that club management takes, explaining that national team roles would provide him with the opportunity to rest more and focus on strategy and preparation rather than day-to-day tasks. “To rest I think would be good for me. But not yet, I’m still here (at City).”

Guardiola’s potential move to a national team coaching position has been the subject of much speculation, especially after England reportedly approached him over the summer regarding the possibility of becoming their head coach.

Manchester City’s Current Struggles

Despite Guardiola’s long-standing success at City, his team has encountered some struggles this season. City has won just one of their last nine matches, and their most recent performances have shown signs of inconsistency. After a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, the team struggled in a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, and now faces Juventus in the Champions League this Wednesday.

Currently sitting 20th in the new 36-team group format of the Champions League, City faces a tough challenge as only the top eight teams automatically advance to the knockout stages. Guardiola will be hoping for a turnaround as his side looks to regain form and continue their pursuit of success under his leadership.
