Enzo Marschka, Chelsea’s head coach, emphasized that Manchester City can still return to the Premier League title race despite their current struggles. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Boxing Day match against Fulham, Marschka acknowledged that his team, while performing well, is not yet in the title contention.
Chelsea’s Current Position
Chelsea sits second in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool, but has played one more match. Marschka refrained from labeling Chelsea as title contenders, stating:
“The pressure of competing for the title isn’t on us, but I hope we face it soon. For now, our focus is on improving the team and players.”
Manchester City’s Challenges
Defending champions Manchester City are 12 points off the top and have suffered nine defeats in their last 12 matches. Marschka, who previously worked with Pep Guardiola, expressed confidence in City’s ability to rebound:
“City is in unfamiliar territory with injuries and unavailable players. They’ll recover and fight for the title again.”
Liverpool and Arsenal in the Race
Liverpool leads the table with consistent performances and the experience of winning titles. However, Arsenal, six points off the top, faces challenges, including Bukayo Saka’s injury.
Marschka noted the significance of experience:
“Liverpool’s track record gives them an edge. Last season’s cup final against Chelsea showed how vital experience is in crucial moments.”
Challenges for Chelsea
Chelsea will continue to miss Mykhailo Mudryk, who has been sidelined following a doping test issue. Marschka offered support for the 23-year-old winger:
“It’s good for him to take some time away. We’re supporting him and look forward to his return.”
As the Premier League season reaches its halfway point, Marschka remains optimistic about Chelsea’s progress and the competitive nature of the title race.
