Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has urged his teammates to create their own legacy, stressing that the team under new manager Arne Slot is distinct from the one managed by Jürgen Klopp.
The Brazilian shot-stopper, part of the team that won the Premier League title in the 2019-2020 season after a 30-year wait, believes that Liverpool now has an opportunity to achieve fresh success.
Currently, Liverpool sits six points ahead of Arsenal, with one game in hand, and could extend their lead further tonight against West Ham at home.
Alisson, reflecting on the differences between the current squad and Klopp’s, said, “That was a special team. We achieved big things, like winning the Premier League after so many years. The year before that, we also won the Champions League. I don’t think the current team has much in common with Klopp’s. There are still a few players left from that team, but we now play a different style with more possession. Before, we played more directly with numerous transitions and high intensity.”
He added, “We should not compare ourselves to the previous team. This group of players needs to build its own history. I’m happy that the current squad has enough quality to create something special. The most important factor for success is the commitment we have.”
