Arsenal Eyes January Move for Benjamin Sesko Amid Injury Crisis

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly accelerating plans to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko due to injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, as well as Kai Havertz's inconsistent form. Despite Sesko’s recent contract extension with Leipzig, a "gentleman’s agreement" could facilitate a move for the highly-rated Slovenia international, who is valued at £60 million.

Arsenal Considers Signing Benjamin Sesko to Address Striker Shortage

Arsenal is revisiting plans to secure the signing of Benjamin Sesko, RB Leipzig’s 21-year-old Slovenian forward, amid a growing striker crisis. According to reports, manager Mikel Arteta is prepared to bring forward his summer transfer strategy to address Arsenal’s immediate needs.

Sesko, who signed a contract extension with Leipzig until 2029, was Arsenal’s primary target last summer. However, the deal fell through when the player opted to remain with the Bundesliga club. Despite this, Sesko has a “gentleman’s agreement” with Leipzig allowing him to leave at the end of the season, making a potential January move feasible if Arsenal is willing to pay a higher fee.

The prolific forward has scored 13 goals and contributed three assists in 25 appearances this season, solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young strikers. His form has sparked fresh interest from Arsenal, particularly as the club struggles with injuries and poor offensive output.

Arsenal’s current striking options are limited. Gabriel Jesus is sidelined for an estimated nine months following knee surgery, while Bukayo Saka’s absence due to injury has exacerbated Arsenal’s attacking woes. With Kai Havertz also struggling for form and unable to handle the full burden of leading the attack, the Gunners are increasingly reliant on set pieces for goals.

According to The Times, Arsenal’s situation has shifted significantly since the summer:

  1. Injury Concerns: Saka and Jesus are out for extended periods.
  2. Form Issues: Havertz’s performances have been inconsistent.
  3. Budget Pressures: Arteta may need assurances that a January signing will not impact his summer transfer plans.

RB Leipzig reportedly values Sesko at around £60 million for a summer move. However, selling him midseason would likely demand a premium, as Leipzig aims to secure Champions League qualification.

While Sesko’s addition could address Arsenal’s immediate attacking needs, it remains uncertain whether the club can afford to spend heavily in January without compromising its long-term goals. Nevertheless, Sesko’s potential signing could provide much-needed depth and spark in Arsenal’s pursuit of silverware this season.
