Arsenal Target Atalanta’s Marco Carneski Amid PSG Interest

Arsenal are eyeing Marco Carneski, Atalanta's talented goalkeeper, to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, but face stiff competition from PSG.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly seeking to bolster his squad in the January transfer window, with a particular focus on reinforcing the goalkeeper position. Although Arsenal’s recent efforts in the transfer market have been substantial, and despite not securing a major trophy yet, the club continues to back the young Spanish manager and aims to provide him with a stronger squad.

One player that has emerged as a target for Arsenal is Marco Carneski, a 24-year-old goalkeeper from Atalanta. However, the Gunners face significant competition, with Paris Saint-Germain also showing interest in the promising shot-stopper. Arteta is reportedly looking to sign a high-quality competitor for current number one, David Raya.

Carneski is considered one of the standout stars at Atalanta, and his potential move won’t come cheaply. According to Corriere dello Sport, both Arsenal and PSG are keen on acquiring the goalkeeper, but Atalanta is demanding between €40 million and €50 million for his transfer.

Arsenal attempted to sign a backup goalkeeper in the summer but fell short in their pursuit. They had initially targeted Juan Garcia of Espanyol to be the second-choice goalkeeper behind Raya, but after backing out of a €30 million deal, Arsenal shifted focus. This scenario could repeat with Carneski, with the Gunners potentially deciding against the move if the price tag proves too high.

Carneski has worked his way up through the Italian football ranks, having spent time on loan at Cremonese and Trapani in Serie B before establishing himself as a regular in Atalanta’s first team starting in 2023.

As the January transfer window approaches, speculation around Carneski’s future will intensify, but it seems unlikely that he will leave Atalanta while they are still fighting for various trophies this season.
