Inzaghi Proud of Inter’s Performance Against Atalanta, Unsure About Toram’s Super Cup Availability

Simone Inzaghi, Inter Milan’s coach, praised his team's performance in their 2-0 win over Atalanta and expressed pride in creating numerous chances against a high-quality opponent. He also stated that he is uncertain about Marcus Thuram's availability for the Super Cup final after a muscle issue led to his substitution.

Inter Milan’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, hailed his team’s impressive performance in their 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the Coppa Italia semi-final, putting them on track to potentially win the Super Cup for the fourth consecutive year. Denzel Dumfries’ brace secured the win for the Nerazzurri.

Inzaghi expressed his satisfaction after the game, saying, “The players were excellent. We never had any issues against such a high-quality team like Atalanta, and we played well. We wanted this final, and we’ve taken the first step. Now we know that the most important step is still ahead, but creating so many chances against Atalanta is something to be proud of.”

Inter could have scored more goals, with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi pulling off several remarkable saves to deny Lautaro Martínez. On the other side, Atalanta’s Ederson had a goal ruled out for offside. Inzaghi reflected on this, saying, “The only flaw was that we didn’t finish the game earlier, but I really can’t complain against such a quality opponent. I am very satisfied, especially with the travel and the busy schedule, but my players showed determination, focus, and precision. We’ve exceeded all expectations this season.”

This victory marked Inter’s fifth consecutive win in all competitions without conceding a goal, a feat not achieved since their six-game winning streak from November to December 2007. Inzaghi also highlighted the contributions of his defenders, stating, “This is our style of football, our defenders go forward and participate in attacks, so they find themselves in the right positions. Dumfries has always scored for Inter and the Netherlands, so it’s not surprising.”

Lautaro Martínez had several big goal-scoring opportunities but was unlucky to convert them. Inzaghi commented, “He was unlucky against Carnesecchi, who made several great saves, but our attackers bring a lot to the team beyond just goals. I’m lucky to have five strikers, and their main focus is to make sure Inter wins the games.”

Marcus Thuram was substituted in the first half due to a minor muscle issue, and Inzaghi was unsure if he would be ready for the Super Cup final against Juventus or AC Milan on January 6. He concluded, “I don’t know yet if he will be able to play. He felt discomfort in his inner thigh, so we decided not to take any risks. His condition will be assessed soon.”
