Israeli Army Expands Occupation in Southern Syria, Escalating Tensions

The Israeli army has advanced into southern Syria, occupying key areas including the Yarmouk River and Al-Wehda Dam, intensifying regional instability.

Nexnews – The Israeli army has continued its occupation of Syrian territory, advancing into the southern regions of the country. According to sources, Israeli forces have seized control of the Yarmouk River and the Al-Wehda Dam in southern Syria, further escalating tensions in the region. The move was reported by Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV Network on Tuesday.

Despite this progress, reports also indicate that the Israeli military has been unable to capture the Beit Jinn area due to strong local resistance. However, Israeli forces are still present around the area, suggesting ongoing tensions.

In addition to the southern advances, Israeli forces have also moved eastward into areas such as Koya, Maariyah, and Al Qusayr, intensifying their presence across Syria.

The escalation comes amidst the recent collapse of the Syrian government under President Bashar al-Assad, which has created an opening for Israeli forces. The Israeli army has entered key southern areas, including the city of Quneitra and a buffer zone that was established under the 1974 disengagement agreement.

This development has prompted sharp reactions globally, especially after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the end of the 1974 agreement, which has served as a crucial framework for de-escalation between Israel and Syria.
