Squid Game Season 3: Potential Release Date Teased by Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has hinted at a potential release date for the third and final season of the hit Netflix series. Expected to arrive in summer or fall next year, Season 3 will continue the gripping journey of Player 456, Gi-hun, as he grapples with guilt and seeks to dismantle the deadly games.

Fans of the global Netflix phenomenon Squid Game might not have to wait too long for its third and final season. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk recently shared updates on the series’ future, teasing a possible release date during an interview with Variety.

Season 2, which premiered on December 26, 2024, brought back Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun/Player 456 and introduced new characters and twists to the deadly survival games. While the season received praise, its cliffhanger ending left fans eagerly anticipating what’s next.

In the interview, Hwang stated:

“After Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”

A Shift in Storytelling
Hwang revealed that the second season was initially planned to span 8-9 episodes but exceeded 10, prompting him to divide the narrative into two parts. This approach allowed the second season to focus on the emotional weight of Gi-hun’s failures, culminating in a dramatic finale where his best friend, Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan), is killed by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).

Reflecting on Gi-hun’s journey, Hwang explained:

“That was an adequate moment to give him some closure along that long story arc. The third season will pick up with Gi-hun burdened by guilt and failure. His mission to end the games will take center stage.”

What to Expect in Season 3
The final season will delve deeper into Gi-hun’s emotional struggles as he continues his mission to dismantle the deadly operation. Fans can expect a high-stakes narrative filled with tension and moral dilemmas.
